Allied health training is offered by 38 colleges and universities in Washington, four of which are located in Seattle. These four programs account for about 10 percent of all allied health programs in Washington.

Whitworth University offers allied health education at the bachelor’s degree level, while Carrington College and the Community Colleges of Spokane offer certificate and associates degrees.

Whitworth University
This private university offers an 11:1 student-faculty ratio and an 85-percent four year graduation rate. For the 14th straight year, Whitworth has been ranked in the top 10 in US News & World Report’s ratings of the 121 best private colleges in the West.

  • Whitworth offers BS and BA degrees in health sciences, nursing and athletic training.
  • The university’s athletic training program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
  • Whitworth has been recognized by Forbes magazine, CollegesofDistinction.com, the Princeton Review and Kiplinger’s, among others.
  • The College of Nursing at Whitworth is approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing and the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education.

Carrington College
These Carrington College certificate programs can be completed in as few as nine months:

  • Dental assisting: Graduates are qualified for positions in dental offices, hospitals and clinics. Carrington has an on-campus dental operating lab and dark room.
  • Medical billing and coding: With a blend of theory and practice that prepares you for an entry-level professional role, this program includes an externship in the Seattle metropolitan area.
  • Pharmacy technology: Students practice dispensing prescriptions and compounding medications in a unique mock pharmacy setting.
  • Massage therapy: Building on a thorough understanding of human anatomy and physiology, students learn a variety of techniques including Shiatsu, Swedish and sports massage. After completing classroom and hands-on instruction in Carrington’s new, state-of-the-art massage clinic, they are qualified for entry-level positions in medical or spa settings.
  • Medical office management: This program consists of clinical and administrative training, as well as an externship and prepares graduates to sit for national registered (RMA) or certified (CMA) credentials. The college has a dedicated medical assisting lab to further students’ experience.
  • Medical radiography: Carrington’s X-ray technology associate’s degree program is accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technologists (JRCERT). The college has lab facilities to support the program.

Community Colleges of Spokane
Spokane and Spokane Falls comprise the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Here’s a look at Spokane Community College’s allied health offerings:

Spokane Falls Community College offers two-year programs for students interested in careers as:

  • Hearing instrument specialists

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts significant increases in employment of professionals in allied health professions – ranging from approximately 25 percent to more than 30 percent between now and 2020.
